Trees for Tomorrow: Leo Century Leads

In Savar’s Hemayetpur, the Leo Club of Dhaka Century organized a meaningful tree plantation initiative at Sugonda Housing, Alamnagar. With support from Ln. Jahangirnagar Alam Jitu, President of Lions Club of Dhaka Century and adviser to the Leo Club, young Leos gathered to plant 40 trees with a vision for a greener tomorrow.

Why Tree Plantation?

In a time of rising temperatures, pollution, and urbanization, trees are not just nature’s ornaments—they’re necessities. The Leo Club initiated this drive not as a symbolic gesture, but as part of a larger environmental commitment to engage youth in climate action and awareness.

Location and Leadership

Sugonda Housing was chosen due to its expanding residential nature and scarcity of green cover. Ln. Jahangirnagar Alam Jitu’s prior arrangements and logistical planning ensured smooth execution.

Preparation and Planning

Leo Club members organized planting kits with saplings of neem, mango, rain tree, and guava, along with compost, biodegradable gear, and signage. A pre-event safety and awareness briefing helped align the team.

Event Highlights

The event started with a welcome speech and a motivating message from Ln. Jitu:

> “Planting trees is one of the greatest services we can offer our planet.”

Forty trees were planted. Each Leo took part with energy and purpose:

Leo Jannat Rahman Anannia coordinated the event.

Leo Kanan Faysal motivated volunteers and linked greenery with mental well-being.

Leo Mahia discussed environmental safety.

Leo Mila engaged the local community.

Leos Mithila, Prohor, Alve, Kona, and Sawda handled planting logistics.

Community Impact

Local families observed and later joined in. Children helped water trees, and some residents offered land for future planting. This spontaneous engagement reinforced the value of youth-led community action.

Sustaining the Green

Follow-up plans include:

Bi-weekly visits.

Watering and tree health checks.

Signboards with QR codes for tree education.
