Project Madhumita -Screening Diabetes in Pregnancy
The Madhumita Project, an initiative of Lion Dr. Namita Dalela, President of the Lions Club Bhopal Majestic (2025–26), and a practicing Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, in association with Jaanki Hospital, Bhopal, focuses on the early detection of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) among pregnant women. The project was launched on World Diabetes Day, 14th November 2025.
With the rising incidence of diabetes in India, screening during pregnancy is essential to safeguard maternal and fetal health. The project spreads awareness about GDM and its potential consequences for both mother and baby.
As part of this initiative, free Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) is conducted for pregnant women between 24 to 28 weeks of pregnancy, the recommended period for accurate screening.
Gestational diabetes often goes unnoticed due to lack of symptoms, yet it can lead to serious complications if untreated. The Madhumita Project bridges this gap by promoting timely screening, healthy practices, and proper medical care.
Through this initiative, we strive to ensure healthier mothers and healthier babies, building a better future for the next generation.
