Leo Club of Dhaka Walks for Road Safety
In the ever-busy city of Dhaka, where traffic rushes endlessly and every second matters, crossing the road can sometimes mean risking one’s life. To celebrate World Lions Day and the October Service Program 2025, the Leo Club of Dhaka and the Leo Club of Dhaka University joined hands for one noble mission ; to make our streets safer through awareness.
On 6th October 2025, early in the morning, the Leos gathered at one of Dhaka’s busiest intersections ; Farmgate. There, they started a powerful Road Safety Awareness Campaign to remind pedestrians that safety is a choice, not a chance. In Bangladesh, many people still ignore traffic rules and avoid using foot overbridges, even when they are just a few steps away. At Farmgate, there are two foot overbridges within 200 meters, yet many prefer to dash across the road amidst speeding vehicles ; a decision that could turn deadly in an instant.
The Leos took this challenge head-on. Holding banners reading “Cross Safe, Live Long” and “Your Family Awaits ; Use the Overbridge,” they approached pedestrians with friendly smiles, genuine conversations, and heartfelt concern. What started as curiosity soon turned into active participation. People stopped, listened, and learned how one simple habit could save countless lives.
In just two and a half hours of continuous effort, the Leos successfully inspired nearly 300 people to use the overbridge instead of crossing the road recklessly.
Representing the Leo Club of Dhaka, sponsored by the Lions Club of Dhaka, the following spirited members proudly took part in the campaign:
Md Mainuddin, Vice President 1 (2025-26)
Md Alahi Mondol, Immediate Past President
Md Rafiqul Islam, Secretary (2025–26)
Md Ariful Islam, Treasurer (2025–26)
Muhammad Jubayer Hossain, Membership Chairperson (2025–26)
MD Shekh Farid Mia, Member
Md Shishir Ahamed, Member
along with six dynamic leaders from the Leo Club of Dhaka University.
This citywide campaign was initiated under the guidance of Leo District 315A1, Bangladesh, led by Leo Arman Hossain, the District President, whose vision for a safer, more responsible community inspired Leos across Dhaka to act. The volunteers not only demonstrated safe road-crossing techniques but also shared emotional real-life stories of road accident victims, touching the hearts of everyone they met.
What made this event truly special was the energy, empathy, and leadership of the young Leos. They didn’t just preach; they practiced. They didn’t just talk; they guided. Each Leo personally helped pedestrians reach the nearest overbridge ; proving that real change begins with real action.
In the end, it wasn’t just about raising awareness; it was about building new habits. Every person who climbed the overbridge that day made a small but powerful choice ; the choice to live safely, to protect loved ones, and to inspire others to do the same.
One pedestrian summed it up beautifully:
“Today I used the overbridge for the first time in years. I’ll never cross the road carelessly again.”
That single line captures the essence of the campaign ; a transformation through awareness.
Because together, as Leos and Lions, we believe:
Every step on the overbridge is a step towards saving a life.
Through service, awareness, and compassion, we continue to walk ; for safety, for humanity, and for a better tomorrow.
