“Every Child Deserves a Chance: Raising Awareness
On a bright morning of October 6th, 2025, the members of the Leo Club of Dhaka New Diamond gathered on the bustling streets of Dhaka, ready to shine a light on a cause close to their hearts — Childhood Cancer Awareness.
Their mission was clear: to reach out to the street community — daily wage workers, street vendors, children living on the road — people who often go unheard and overlooked, just like many children fighting cancer.
With golden ribbons pinned proudly on their shirts and colorful posters in hand, the Leo members took to the busy corners and marketplaces. Their voices carried a powerful message:
“Childhood cancer is real. Early detection can save lives. Every child deserves a chance.”
They handed out simple pamphlets, explained the early signs of childhood cancer in the local language, and listened patiently as street people shared their stories and concerns.
Many had never heard of childhood cancer before. A rickshaw driver paused, listening closely, and accepted a gold ribbon, promising to tell his family and friends. A street mother, holding her little girl, wiped tears after learning that even children like hers could be affected — and that there was hope through awareness and care.
The Leo Club also performed short skits and songs right on the road — engaging the crowd with hope and courage. Children from the streets joined in, holding signs that read:
“Be Aware. Show You Care.”
“Together, We Can Fight Childhood Cancer.”
The event, funded generously by the Lions Club, did more than spread information — it brought a community together. It showed that no matter where life places you, knowledge and compassion can cross any boundary.
By evening, the streets of Dhaka carried a new glow — golden ribbons on clothes, smiles inspired by hope, and hearts ready to fight alongside children battling cancer.
One small boy, eyes wide with wonder, tugged at a Leo volunteer’s hand and whispered, “Will you come back next year?”
The volunteer smiled warmly and said, “We promise — every year, we will be here for you.”
Leo Club of Dhaka New Diamond showed that courage and care don’t need a special place — they just need a willing heart and the strength to walk the road alongside those who need it most.
