CALABAR DOYEN LIONS CLUB GIVES EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT
In line with its avowed commitment to humanitarian service, the Calabar Doyen Lions Club of District 404A2 Nigeria has assisted Master Praise Okokon Asuquo, the last child of late Lion Okokon Asuquo, with financial assistance to support his education.
Speaking at the event held at School Hall of Christian High School, Atakpa, Calabar, the Past District Governor, District 404A2 Nigeria, Lion Princess Obo Edet mentioned that ”giving succor is one of the activities Lions Clubs International is known for.”
Highlighting the focus area of Lions Clubs International to include: diabetes, hunger, cancer, sight, environment and empowerment, hence the reason for the occasion.
PDG Obo also urged the management of the school to make plans to join the Lions Clubs International in order to be more service-oriented to the larger society in a bigger capacity.
Earlier, the Club President of Calabar Doyen Lions Club, Lion Dominica Effiom said ”we are here today because of what we stand for — service to humanity.”
Lion Dominica further mentioned that during the obsequies of late Lion Okokon Asuquo, an active member of Calabar Doyen Lions Club, the Leo Programme Chairperson of District 404A2 Nigeria, Lion Engr. Michael Udosen promised a cash of 250,000 (Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) to the last child, Master Praise Okokon Asuquo to enable him pay his three terms school fees.
Responding, the Principal of the school, Mr. Emmanuel Augustine expressed excitement over what the Lions Clubs is doing in the society.
The elated Principal who was represented by the Vice Principal, Mr. Uwem Akpan said an Organization such as Lions Club has come to relieve a child; this will become a very strong morale booster, adding that what the Lions Club have done today for this child can never be forgotten by the recipient and his family.
Mr. Uwem thanked the Club for the project and appealed for more of such impactful projects from the Club to the school.
In his response, the beneficiary, Master Praise Okokon Asuquo expressed gratitude to Lions Club for such magnanimity, which he averred has brought great respite to his family.
Master Asuquo prayed for the Club and her members for financial increase and for God to give them the enabling grace to continue to serve the humanity, while also praying for God’s intervention in his academic pursuit.
