World Sight Day Activities

Lions Clubs International District 301-B2 organized a series of activities in celebration of “World Sight Day.” The activities began with the “Minding Myopia” symposium on October 12 at Bethel Guest House. This activity seeks to spread awareness about the rising cases of myopia or nearsightedness in the country and how it can negatively affect people’s lives, especially school-age children. The keynote speaker was Dr. Carmen Abesamis-Dichoso, a practicing optometrist from Makati City who specializes in myopia management.

Meanwhile, October 13, 2022, was filled with activities as well. The organizing club conducted Vision Screening and Refraction for all Grade 5 pupils and all teachers, together with Pathway Painting, Feeding, and the Lions Peace Poster-making contest. All of these activities were held concurrently at the Felipe Tayko Memorial School in Siaton, Negros Oriental.

This event was hosted by the Dumaguete City “Host” Lions Club and in collaboration with the Negros Oriental Provincial Eye Health Team, DepEd SDO Negros Oriental, Mugna Gallery, and Professional ODs Society. These activities were sponsored by Fred Hollows Foundation, Essilor Philippines, GB Vision Care, Hoya Lens Philippines, Panda Ice Cream, Metro Dumaguete Lions Club, President Richard Ng, 2PMJF – Mandaue City Host Lions Club, MD 301 CC PDG Frederick Lim, PMJF – Cebu Bayanihan Lions Club, PP Francisco “Kiki” Romualdez, 10PMJF, 2nd Century Ambassador – Tacloban City Host Lions Club, Cebu Malipayon Lions Club, and Cebu Lions Club.

Everything begins with small steps and meaningful collaborations to create an impact and address the needs of our society.
