Vision, Diabetes, Childhood Cancer & Hunger Service Day

Dumaguete City Lions Club hosted a service day at Brgy. Dayoyo, Jimalalud, that brought smiles to their faces and joy in their hearts. A visionary initiative of our club provided comprehensive eye services, childhood eye cancer (retinoblastoma) screening, blood and urine sugar testing, and snacks to our beneficiaries and volunteers.

Four global causes of Lions Clubs International Foundation were our focus. Vision, Childhood Cancer, Diabetes, and Hunger. This activity was made possible through a collaboration with the Silliman University Medical Center Foundation Inc. (SUMCFI) and Negros Oriental Provincial Eye Health Team (which is sponsored by the Fred Hollows Foundation). A mobile clinic was brought to Jimalalud and was actually the inaugural medical mission of the SUMCFI. It is the first of its hybrid in the Philippines. In addition to the usual services – ultrasound, clinical laboratory exam results are also given on the same day. It is also the first solar-powered Mobile Clinic in the country.

We are looking forward to more organizations to partner with so that communities can be given access to medical and eye services that are not available to the outskirt communities.

Our Lions Club will continue to serve the community.
