TU Lions Blood Transfusion and Research Center is a landmark health initiative jointly established by the historic Tribhuvan University (TU) and Lions International MD 325 Nepal. This center stands today as the world’s largest Lions-established Blood Bank and a model of humanitarian service in Nepal. With the mission to ensure safe, accessible, and high-quality blood services, the project was built through strong collaboration and community participation. More than 3,000 founder members contributed individually to make this vision possible. The center now operates as an advanced “A” category blood bank committed to safeguarding lives across the nation.

Major Donor: Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF)
The primary donor of this mega project is the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF). LCIF contributed significantly through matching grants—US$100,000 in LY 2021–2022 and US$261,000 in LY 2022–2023—enabling the construction, expansion, and modernization of the blood bank. The remaining amount, US$33,900, is now being utilized to procure additional advanced medical equipment to further strengthen service quality.

Support from Foundations, Organizations, and Government Agencies
Along with LCIF, this institution has received meaningful support from various national and international foundations, humanitarian organizations, medical institutions, and government offices. Their contributions have collectively enhanced the infrastructure, technology, and research capability needed for a modern blood service facility. This broad collaboration demonstrates a unified commitment to improving Nepal’s public health system.
