The Roar of Compassion
In the heart of every community lies a quiet but powerful force—a group of people bound not by obligation but by compassion. One such force is the Legazpi City ‘Host Lions Club, PMJF, headed by their President, Lion Paulin Imperial-Dy, PMJF, a socio-civic club known for their unwavering commitment to service. While their projects range from environmental initiatives to vision care, one of their most heart-touching missions is supporting children fighting the hardest battle of their young lives: cancer.
In 2021, the Club launched an ambitious program to help these children. The goal was straightforward but deeply impactful: provide month-long medical support, toys, food packs, and essential supplies to pediatric cancer patients in local hospitals. The idea was born during a regular meeting, when a member, Lion President Paulin Imperial-Dy, PMJF, shared stories of children in a provincial hospital unable to access vital medication simply because their families couldn’t afford it. That was all it took for the club to rally behind the cause.
The club partnered with a nearby children’s hospital and the City Social Welfare and Development of Legazpi City to deliver care packages filled with toys, food packs, and essentials. What seemed like a small gesture had a profound effect. Smiles returned to faces that had grown weary, and parents expressed deep gratitude for the simple reminder that they weren’t alone. As of April 2025, these children received support from the club. They are given a month’s supply of their medicines and other essentials, such as diapers and other hygiene supplies.
What began as a response to a single child’s fight has become a beacon of hope for many. The Legazpi City ‘Host’ Lions Club has proven that while cancer may be fierce, so is community—and together, we can roar back with love, support, and unwavering hope. At the heart of all this is a simple philosophy that defines every Lions Club: “Where there’s a need, there is a Lion” And for children battling cancer, that need is immense—not just for medicine, food, and toys, but for compassion, dignity, and a hand to hold.
The Club may not be able to cure cancer, but what they offer is something just as powerful: the knowledge that someone cares, that no child is forgotten, and that even in the hardest times, kindness can roar louder than fear. In a world often too busy to notice suffering, the Legazpi City ‘Host” Lions Club, PMJF, chooses to stop, see, and serve. And in doing so, they light a path of courage, not just for children with cancer, but for all of us.
For four straight years, the Club has stood as a beacon of hope and compassion for children battling cancer. Through unwavering dedication and heartfelt service, we brought comfort, joy, and strength to young warriors and their families. This is our PRIDE, our signature project of the Legazpi City ‘Host” Lions Club, PMJF. Our continued support is more than a mission—it’s a promise that no child fights alone, and that love, community, and kindness can light even the darkest journeys. Roar!
