Restoring Dignity, One Toilet at a Time
When Cyclone Ditwah struck Sri Lanka, communities were left reeling from widespread devastation. In the aftermath, Lions stepped forward swiftly, mobilizing relief, restoration and rehabilitation efforts with support from a Major Catastrophe Grant from Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF).
Among these efforts, District 306D3 undertook a project to construct 100 toilets, addressing an essential but often overlooked need among low-income families and schools affected by the disaster.
Recognizing that access to safe sanitation is fundamental to health, dignity and wellbeing, the project went beyond immediate disaster relief to help communities rebuild essential facilities and restore a sense of normalcy.
Led by District Governor Bosco Silva, the Lions team undertook extensive on-the-ground work to drive the project forward, coordinating efforts to ensure that the sanitation facilities were completed and handed over to the beneficiary families and schools.
This initiative reflects the spirit of Lions service — responding to urgent needs while investing in the foundations of healthier, safer communities.
With the support of LCIF, Lions are helping communities rebuild not just their homes and infrastructure, but also the dignity and wellbeing of the people who call them home.
