Recovery of food surpluses
The project of the Lions Club Bergamo Host, District 108IB2, is the result of a teamwork between Lions and Leos of the whole district, institutions and associations. It is based on the recovery and distribution of surplus food, for disposal but still usable through an efficient network for the collection and redistribution for the benefit of canteens and charitable institutions.
LCIF co-financed the project with $80,000, 113 tons of foodstuffs were recovered in 2021 corresponding to about 114,000 meals, including 22 tons of baby products. The project has developed in the provinces of Bergamo, Brescia and Mantua, in collaboration with associations of recognized competence. Lions volunteers involved in the management of the project have provided 1,800 hours of service.
Il progetto promosso dal Lions Club Bergamo Host, Lombardia Distretto 108 IB2, è frutto di un lavoro di squadra tra Lions e Leo di tutto il distretto, istituzioni ed associazioni. Si basa sul recupero e la distribuzione di eccedenze alimentari, prossime allo smaltimento ma ancora fruibili attraverso una rete efficiente di raccolta sistematica e ridistribuzione a beneficio di mense sociali ed istituzioni caritative.
La L.C.I.F. ha co finanziato il progetto con 80.000 dollari, nel 2021 sono state recuperate 113 tonnellate di derrate alimentari corrispondenti a circa 114.000 pasti, fra cui 22 tonnellate di prodotti per l’infanzia, si è sviluppato nelle provincie di Bergamo, Brescia e Mantova, in collaborazione con associazioni di riconosciuta competenza. Nella gestione del progetto sono impegnati volontari lions che hanno prestato 1.800 ore di servizio.
