Lions Empower Rural Students Through School Garden

At Nadeswara College, Jaffna, with 150 students, the Lions Club of Nallur North Golden Star (District 306 B1) launched a school vegetable garden project to promote sustainability and nutrition. Inspired by the Lions’ “Protect Child Nutrition” initiative where a meal is donated daily through an LCIF-designated grant, past students donated a brand-new kitchen and dining hall. Located in a rural, war-affected area now under rehabilitation, the school has seen remarkable improvements—student attendance increased by 50%, and academic performance has significantly improved due to regular attendance and better nutrition. This project highlights how simple, community-driven efforts can spark long-lasting educational and social impact.
