Region of Implementation: Amravati & Yavatmal (District 3234H1) India
The Lions Diabetic Care Unit, located at Gurukunj Mozari, is a flagship health initiative aimed at combating the growing threat of diabetes in India’s underserved rural belt. This vital project is funded by Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) and implemented by Lions Club Yavatmal Pharma and Lions Club Amravati Real.
🔍 Diabetes in India – A Growing Challenge
India is currently witnessing a diabetes epidemic, with over 100 million diagnosed and millions more undiagnosed. Alarmingly, recent studies show that diabetes prevalence is rising faster in rural areas than in urban centers, due to lack of awareness, delayed diagnosis, limited access to healthcare, and lifestyle changes. Rural populations often suffer from complications due to late detection and poor management.
🌾 Lions Response – Making Healthcare Accessible in Rural India
To address this urgent public health issue, the Lions Diabetic Care Unit provides free and accessible awareness camps to the rural communities of Amravati and Yavatmal.
📌 Project Highlights:
Beneficiaries: Over 1,00,000 individuals reached so far
Camps Organized:
100+ outreach camps in remote villages
24 indoor camps with follow-up care
Services Provided:
✅ Free diabetes awareness and education sessions
✅ Doctor consultations for early detection and advice
✅ On-site random blood sugar testing
✅ Ongoing support for high-risk and diabetic patients
This initiative is a shining example of how community-driven healthcare can make a real difference in tackling lifestyle diseases like diabetes—especially where help is needed most.
