Leo PawSpective: Giving Sight in Dumangas, Iloilo
Restoring sight, dignity, and a clearer path forward for 60 residents and the ISAT-U Dumangas community, the Iloilo City Host Leo Club, in collaboration with partners, provided free eye screenings and 160 pairs of matched eyeglasses at “LEO PawSpective: An Optical Check-up” on April 25, 2025.
This impactful initiative, held at ISAT-U Dumangas Campus, saw the Iloilo City Host Leo Club join forces with Jesus Reigns Ministries Iloilo, Vital Signs Publication, Iloilo City Host Lions Club, and AMSA-WVSU. The collaborative effort ensured that a licensed optometrist conducted professional eye screenings, primarily benefiting senior citizens and individuals with limited access to vision care from Barangays PD Monfort and South in Dumangas, alongside the ISAT-U Dumangas community. Dedicated Leo members played a vital role, assisting patients during check-ups, identifying necessary prescription strengths, and skillfully fitting them with donated eyeglasses.
The generosity of the collaborative network enabled the distribution of 160 pairs of second-hand prescription glasses, thoughtfully matched by the Leo Club to each patient’s specific visual needs. To promote lasting eye health, Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials in Kinaray-a were also shared, ensuring culturally resonant awareness. This “LEO PawSpective” event highlighted the Leo Club’s unwavering commitment to service. Recognizing sight as fundamental to quality of life, independence, and confidence, the initiative went beyond mere medical outreach, actively restoring dignity and creating brighter futures for the beneficiaries.
The Lions Clubs International’s long-standing dedication to vision care is mirrored in the Leo Clubs’ efforts, as demonstrated by this project. “LEO PawSpective” exemplifies how young leaders actively champion eye health within their community, aligning with the global mission to combat blindness and support the visually impaired. By addressing immediate needs and fostering health awareness, the Leo Club and its partners contributed to a healthier and more empowered future for the Dumangas community.
