Kanlaon Evacuation Center Relief Operation
Mt. Kanlaon is an active andesitic stratovolcano and the highest mountain on the island of Negros in the Philippines, as well as the highest peak in the Visayas. The volcano started to emit dangerous smoke and had its first eruption last December 9, 2024. The residents living near the site were requested to evacuate. Crops, plants and many people were greatly affected. Just recent week of January 2025, another emission from the volcano spotted and alarmed everyone.
The ash emission greatly affected the livelihood of the residents. To answer the call of help from the people, District 301 B1 Lions gathered funds and applied for LCIF emergency grant to help the community. On January 11, 2025 there were 180+ Lions and Leos volunteers who help distributed relief goods to 1948 individuals or 596 families located in La Carlota and La Castellana. The residents were very thankful to LCIF and Lions International for the extended help. For giving them hope through to their lowest point. So proud to be part of this organization.
So proud to be a Lion. We are making a mark in the lives of every people in need.
