Glenside Lions LCIF Haiti Earthquake Appeal
Glenside Lions have donated $2,000 to the LCIF Haiti Earthquake Appeal in September because we want to help the people of Haiti. On August 14, an M7.2 earthquake struck the southwest of Haiti in the mountains between the Nippes Department and Sud Department. This earthquake occurred at a depth of only 6.2 miles (10 km), which is critical because shallow earthquakes usually cause more damage. In comparison the 2010 Haiti earthquake only recorded an M7.0
In addition Haiti suffered a direct hit by hurricane Grace on 16 August, just two days later, causing more damage.
LCIF has started an international appeal to Lions Clubs around the world to help Haiti at a time of need. LCIF is mobilizing funds including a US$100,000 major catastrophe grant to Lions to deliver relief in Haiti.
