From a Scorpion Sting to a Lifesaving Hospital
A Pride Story: From a Scorpion Sting to a Lifesaving Medical Center in Naqada
In the heart of Upper Egypt, a new story of hope was written.
The Naqada Hospital Project in Qena Governorate stands today as a beacon of compassion and service — transforming access to healthcare for more than 184,000 residents of Naqada and its surrounding villages. The project was inspired by a heartbreaking story — the loss of a young boy named Seif, who tragically passed away after a scorpion sting. His family could not reach an equipped medical facility in time; the nearest one was over 100 kilometers away.
That loss became the driving force behind this initiative — to ensure that no other family would suffer the same pain again.
A Collaborative Humanitarian Effort
Under the umbrella of District 352 Egypt, the project was led by the Diabetes Committee, chaired by Lion Dr. Iman Marzouk, who spearheaded its implementation in partnership with ”Egypt Without Disease Foundation,” supported by LCIF and numerous Lions clubs across Egypt.
The partnership brought together multiple contributors:
- LCIF provided USD 9,500 through a District and Club Community Impact Grant to initiate the project.
- Lions Clubs of Egypt collectively donated an additional USD 41,300 to complete the medical and service equipment.
- His Eminence Bishop Pimen, Bishop of Naqada and Qous, generously donated the hospital building, reflecting his deep commitment to serving his community.
- Egypt Without Disease Foundation manages and operates the hospital daily to ensure sustainable and high-quality service.
What Has Been Achieved
Thanks to this unified effort, the hospital is now fully equipped with state-of-the-art medical devices, including:
- A complete diagnostic X-Ray system with advanced image receiver – USD 20,000
- A fully equipped medical laboratory – USD 10,500
- A comprehensive ophthalmology clinic – USD 11,200
- An ultrasound (Echo) machine – USD 9,100
With total investments exceeding EGP 2,400,,000 (around USD 50,800), Naqada Hospital has become a modern, well-equipped medical facility capable of serving patients with speed, safety, and dignity.
Why It Matters
Before this project, accessing proper medical care meant long, exhausting travel for more than 100 km. Today, healthcare is closer, faster, and safer — a true lifeline for families across Naqada. And the journey doesn’t end here — work is already underway to establish an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for neonates and adults, further expanding the hospital’s capacity to save lives.
A Word from the Project Leader
“Seif’s story was a wake-up call — a reminder that real service begins when we turn pain into purpose. This project isn’t just about medical equipment; it’s about restoring dignity, hope, and life to our people in Upper Egypt.” — Lion Dr. Iman Marzouk, Chairperson of the Diabetes Committee, District 352 Egypt
The Power of Lions and LCIF
The Naqada Hospital Project stands as a shining example of how LCIF and Lions of Egypt work hand in hand to transform lives through compassion and service. It is proof that every contribution — whether time, effort, or donation — truly makes a difference.
Together, we serve. Together, we save lives. 🦁💛
