Empathy Against Hunger: Lions Unite in Compassiona

2nd International Service Week – Relieving Hunger (3–11 January 2026)
Under the inspiring and visionary leadership of PMJF Lion Dr. R. C. Mishra, District Governor 321B1, the 2nd International Service Week – Relieving Hunger emerged as a powerful expression of empathy, coordination, and purposeful service. The success of this district-wide humanitarian initiative was further strengthened by the excellent management and committed guidance of MJF Lion Manisha Khare, District Hunger Chairperson; PMJF Lion Vishal Sinha, District Service Coordinator; and MJF Lion Naveen Jhingran, Cabinet Secretary. Their collective leadership ensured that compassion was translated into well-planned, meaningful, and dignified action across communities.

Observed from 3rd to 11th January 2026, the week aligned with the global cause of Relieving Hunger, built around resonant themes such as “Empathy Against Hunger” and “Food Waste to Food Plate.” Lions Clubs across District 321-B1 actively participated, reaffirming the commitment of Lions Clubs International to fight hunger not merely through food distribution, but through sensitivity, sustainability, and respect for human dignity. Patients’ attendants, children, elderly citizens, daily wage workers, students, and the homeless were reached through thoughtfully designed service activities.

Lions Club Lucknow Eklavya organized a special lunch at Prasadam, King George’s Medical University, for attendants of patients from various departments. In a space marked by anxiety and exhaustion, the meal brought nourishment, comfort, and reassurance—service delivered with empathy. Lions Club Lucknow Anubhav extended care to children at Shree Ram Audhyogic Anathalaya, Aliganj, arranging a wholesome lunch for residents. The initiative reflected the Lions’ belief that service requires no reason—only humanity.

In Shahjahanpur, Lions Club Saheli organized a large community meal during the winter season and distributed tea and biscuits to laborers, offering warmth and relief in harsh weather. Lions Club Shahjahanpur Shakti echoed this compassion by serving tea and snacks to people braving severe cold near the Town Hall area, fostering human connection alongside nourishment.

Addressing hunger through awareness, Lions Club Lucknow Century conducted an educational session at Gyan Minder Inter College, Indira Nagar, highlighting the importance of preventing food wastage. The program bridged awareness with action by distributing edible items, reinforcing the principle of turning surplus food into sustenance.

Lions Club Lucknow Prakash supported visually impaired girls at a government institution by donating dry ration and serving freshly prepared food and sweets. The presence of senior Lions leader MJF Lion Naveen Jhingran added encouragement and inspiration, making the occasion deeply meaningful.
Focusing on senior citizens, Lions Club Lucknow Astitva donated dry ration to Snehdhara Old Age Home, ensuring food security for elderly residents. Under the Global Cause Relieving Hunger, Lions Club Lucknow Pratishtha organized a month-long hunger drive, including service at Rein Basera at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, providing refreshments to patients’ attendants. Notably, Rein Basera is supported through Lions Clubs International Foundation(LCIF)—the charitable arm of Lions—whose grants enable sustainable, large-scale humanitarian projects worldwide.

The International Service Week – Relieving Hunger stood as a shining example of leadership-driven service, collective responsibility, and compassionate outreach. With the support of LCIF, dedicated leadership, and tireless volunteers, District 321B1 demonstrated that hunger relief is not only about food—it is about dignity, empathy, and sustained service to humanity.
