DISTRICT 404B2 MEGA HUNGER RELIEF ACTIVITY
Lions Clubs International is deeply committed to fighting hunger and ensuring food security as part of our global humanitarian mission. The “Relieving the Hunger” initiative is a key pillar of our efforts to serve communities in need. By combining local initiatives with global resources, Lions are determined to make a significant impact in reducing hunger and improving lives.
In order to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians and support those in need, Lions District 404B2 Nigeria reached out to 500 households in Ikeja area of Lagos with food items to cushion the effect of the present economic situation in the country.
The food items were distributed to the beneficiaries during the Lions Food Bank Initiative; tagged, ‘Mega Hunger Relief Outreach’ held at the Ikeja local government, an activity supported by Lion Club International Foundation.
The food items distributed include bags of rice, spaghetti noodles, garri (cassava flakes), tomato paste, bread among others. Lion Tolulope Senbanjo, the District Governor of District 404B2 Nigeria while speaking during the exercise said that the initiative is to provide some palliative in terms of food items to people within the Ikeja community.
The event also featured a symposium on wellness awareness where participants and beneficiaries were educated on the importance of balanced diets and how they can have a good life with respect to paying attention to Nutrition. The effort of the District embody the Lions Club motto, “We Serve,” by making a tangible difference in people’s lives and strengthening communities.
The hunger relief activity play a crucial role in addressing food insecurity and supporting the community in Ikeja where the service activity took place. Hunger is a pressing issue affecting millions of people globally. This hunger relief activity focuses on providing meals, food supplies, and resources to alleviate hunger in the community.
Considering an average household has 4 members, it translates that the activity directly impacts about 2000 lives. The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the organization for bringing smiles to their faces and encouraged the Lions club to continue their good work.
The District Governor mentioned that the project is in two phases, the second phase will also cater for 500 people in Ilorin in February 2025. The beauty of this activity is reflected in the partnership the District had with the Ikeja local government to get the data of those that really need the items. Because the local government had a database of people living in the Ikeja community, they provided Lions with the data of people that really need these food items which include low income earners, people that are not employed and people that cannot afford or are struggling with three square meal.
Also Lion Tosin Ijaduola, Coordinator for the hunger relief project while speaking said that the club is doing this to support households to cushion the effect of the economic hardship in the land.
This activity is a testament that indeed Lions are making a mark in our various community. We continually remain a beacon of hope consistently serving a world in need.
