Cataract Surgery
Under the inspiring global humanitarian framework of Lions Global Cause – Vision, Lions Club Lucknow Pratishtha, District 321B1, successfully organized and carried out a cataract surgery service activity on 12 December 2025 at Lucknow. This meaningful initiative reaffirmed the club’s sustained commitment to restoring eyesight, improving quality of life, and spreading hope among individuals affected by preventable and treatable blindness.
Cataract-related vision impairment remains one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide. Although cataract blindness is fully curable through timely surgery, many people , specially from economically weaker sections, continue to suffer due to lack of awareness, accessibility, and financial means. Keeping this pressing social concern in focus, Lions Club Lucknow Pratishtha identified four needy patients who were unable to afford cataract surgery and extended comprehensive support to ensure their treatment with compassion, dignity, and professional medical care. Through this intervention, the club enabled timely surgeries, prevented permanent loss of vision, and helped the beneficiaries regain independence, confidence, and self-reliance in their daily lives.
The cataract surgeries were performed by experienced ophthalmic professionals at Lucknow, at a reputed and well-equipped eye care institution in Lucknow known for its patient-centric services. The entire procedure was conducted following the highest standards of medical excellence, hygiene, and patient safety. Post-operative care was given equal importance. All four beneficiaries received prescribed medicines, eye drops, and detailed medical guidance to ensure smooth recovery and optimal visual outcomes. This holistic approach reflects the Lions philosophy of combining medical excellence with empathy, responsibility, and long-term social impact.
As highlighted by Club Secretary Lion Dr. Meera Singh, the service activity went beyond clinical treatment and was marked by warmth and human connection. District Cabinet Chairperson (Winter) Lion Neena Singh and District Chairperson (Women Health & Hygiene) Lion Jaya Mathur personally interacted with the patients and their attendants. Their thoughtful gesture of distributing tea, buns, and biscuits created an atmosphere of comfort and reassurance, providing emotional support during a vulnerable phase and reinforcing the humane spirit of Lions service.
The presence and encouragement of senior Lions leaders further strengthened the spirit of teamwork. Zone Chairperson Lion Sanjay Srivastava motivated members to continue undertaking impactful and sustainable service projects. The leadership of Club President MJF Lion M. S. Sengar played a key role in the effective planning and execution of the activity, while MJF Lion Preeti Srivastava actively supported the initiative, reinforcing the club’s collective commitment to humanitarian service.
A strong global pillar supporting such Vision-related initiatives is Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF). LCIF plays a transformative role in advancing Lions Global Causes by providing grants, strategic direction, and resources for large-scale humanitarian programs worldwide. In the field of Vision, LCIF has been instrumental in combating preventable blindness through SightFirst and related initiatives by funding cataract surgeries, strengthening eye care infrastructure, training medical professionals, and expanding access to eye health services for underserved communities. Local initiatives like this cataract surgery activity reflect the spirit of LCIF’s global mission and demonstrate how grassroots action aligned with global causes can create lasting impact.
Further inspiration was provided by District Cabinet Chairperson (Vision) PMJF Lion Anurag Chandra, whose guidance emphasized that restoring eyesight is not merely a medical procedure, but a life-changing service that empowers individuals.
