Building Dreams for Special Needs Students
New Century Lions Club of Kuching Emerald is proud to unveil our latest project: the construction of a Bocce Court at SMK Tabuan Jaya, a Special Needs Secondary School in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. This initiative, with its long-term, lasting benefits, reflects our unwavering commitment to nurturing talent and creating opportunities for special needs students to thrive—both on and off the field.
The Bocce Court represents more than just a physical space; it stands as a powerful symbol of inclusion, empowerment, and potential. By equipping special needs students with vital sports skills, we are helping them unlock pathways to shine on the grandest stages, including Special Olympics competitions at state, national, and global levels. Beyond that, this facility positions the school as a beacon for hosting Special Olympics events, fostering pride and unity for students, their families, and the broader community.
This transformative project began with the delivery of materials in August 2024 and was completed by November 2024, a testament to the generosity and dedication of our club members and supporters, who made it possible through their sponsorship of construction materials.
On 14th December 2024, we marked the official handover of the Bocce Court with a heartwarming ceremony. The event brought together the Principal of SMK Tabuan Jaya, representatives from Special Olympics Kuching Chapter, dedicated teachers, and our passionate club members. We were deeply honored by the presence of Region 1 Chairperson Lion Marie Isabel Lim, Zone 3 Chairperson Lion Judy Hii, and our distinguished Guest of Honour, District 308-A2 Governor Lion Annie Ho.
As part of this memorable occasion, we also proudly contributed six recycling bins to the school, reinforcing our shared commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
This project celebrates the boundless potential within every student and underscores the incredible strength of community spirit. Together, we are building dreams, breaking barriers, and creating a brighter, more inclusive future for all, with lasting impact for generations to come.
