Books That Carry Hope

A single book can travel farther than we imagine. It can cross borders, enter a classroom, spark a child’s imagination, and open a door to a future that once seemed out of reach.
That belief came to life through the Reading Action Program Committee of Lions Club District 307A1, which brought the spirit of reading and sharing into the 13th Lions Blood Heroes Blood Donation Program at Central Park Mall 2 on 25–26 September 2026.
Together with Lions Club Jakarta Barat Melati, the committee organized a Book Donation & Adoption initiative, inviting Lions, Leos, Donors, Visitors, and the community to turn their love of books into an act of service.
The response was remarkable. 749 books were collected during the two-day initiative. Among them, 322 books were handed over to Yayasan Heart for Timor to be distributed to elementary and junior high school libraries in NTT, while 341 books were adopted by visitors to be read and enjoyed again. Another 27 encyclopaedia books were donated to a higher-education library.
Two individual contributions added an especially meaningful touch. Lion Bunda Lusia Soetanto of Lions Club Jakarta Monas Heritage donated 169 illustrated storybooks, while Lion Ellies Sutrisna of Lions Club Jakarta Barat Melati contributed 120 illustrated storybooks. These books will find new homes in school libraries across Timor, NTT.
What makes this initiative special is not simply the number of books collected, but the story behind them. People gave what they had, others helped connect those gifts to communities in need, and together they transformed generosity into opportunity.
It is another example of how giving, compassion, and collaboration can turn into action.
And this is precisely how the Lions Blood Heroes Blood Donation Program continues to evolve into a humanitarian festival—a gathering where different acts of service can come together under one spirit of humanity. Beyond donating blood, people can donate Knowledge, Time, Resources, Encouragement, and HOPE.
A blood donation can HELP save a life. A book can help SHAPE one. When they meet in the same spirit of service, the impact reaches even further.

Because sometimes, the greatest gift is not what we give, but what our giving makes possible.
