“Aarogya: Move For Health” – Mobile health clinic project for the needy by young Lions & Leos of Nepal

A door-to-door unique free screening, diagnosis, consultation & treatment project for the needy has been initiated by Lions Club of Dharan Ghopa United and their sponsored clubs, Lions Club of Dharan Ghopa Health Professionals and Health Ambassadors United Leo Club, with the support of B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences and Quest Pharmaceuticals.

Under Project “Aarogya: Move For Health”, these clubs in collaboration with Lions Club of Biratnagar Shubham, Lions Club of Biratnagar Active, Lions Club of Biratnagar Mid City, Lions Club of Biratnagar Gograha, Lions Club of Biratnagar Pathibhara, Lions Club of Biratnagar Rani and Lions Club of Biratnagar Royal held a “Free Psychiatric Health Camp” at Shree Manavsewa Ashram, Biratnagar-10.

The camp was inaugurated by renowned Psychiatrist Lion Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Mishra in presence of Leos, Leo Lions, Lions and residents. A team of medical healthcare professionals led by Lion Dr. Mishra together with medical & paramedical students as well as entrance preparing students, most of whom are Lions, Leo Lions & Leos served in this outreach camp and ensured treatment with medicines for around 50 patients of mental illness, that have been rescued from different parts of eastern Nepal.

The event was held under the theme: “Making mental health and well-being for all a global priority.” During the health camp, people suffering from mental ailments were identified & will now be followed up with tertiary care service for further management. Along with free checkup & consultation, free medicines were distributed to patients. All services are provided free of cost. Lion Dr. Sanjeev Mishra; Leo Lion Dr. Shuvam Kumar Agrawal; Observers, Ovr. Amrita Aryal, Ovr. Arjun Kc, Ovr. Bimala Bhandari, Ovr. Dikshya Bista, Ovr. Roji Maharjan, Ovr. Kanchan Shah, Ovr. Karimulla Reyan, Ovr. Sajana Dahal, Ovr. Swekshya Niraula, Ovr. Khusbu Nayak and Ovr. Usha Mandal; Leos, Leo Manisha Raut Giri, Leo Barsha Singh Rajput, Leo Royal Gal and Leo Aanand Sah and Shivaram Chaudhary & Ajay Shah from Quest Pharmaceuticals volunteered in the health camp. Lion Kamala Adhikari Kadel, Lion Phanindra Thapa, Lion Shaktendra Kumar Singh, Lion Bijendra Karn dai, Lion Ekta Thapa Subedi, Lion Sandeep Bagaria dai & Lion Pappu Ansari joined the camp.

Charter President of Lions Club of Dharan Ghopa United, Guiding Lion of Lions Club of Dharan Ghopa Health Professionals & Advior of Health Ambassadors United Leo Club, Leo Lion Dr. Shuvam Kumar Agrawal says that the camp aimed to render free mental health care services at the door steps of the mentally ill and make timely medical intervention among poor needy communities by providing free treatment to the needy to raise their quality of life.

Speaking at the camp on Saturday, Lion Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Mishra appreciated the young Lions, Leo Lions and Leos for their kind gesture & assured all help & support. He told, these community campaigns have also brought about welcoming change in attitudes of the families and community towards mental illness. Patients benefited from these camps, after being cured can be further rehabilitated and lead normal life.

The people who attended the camp were thankful to Lions International for providing them free check-up, medications & awareness. Ganga, who takes care of the residents there said, “People here were struggling with their health issues & were in need of a psychiatric health camp. I thank Lions, Leo Lions and Leos for this noble initiative & we believe everyone here will be well soon. Thank you so much!”

Member of Health Ambassadors United Leo Club, Leo Manisha Raut Chhetri said such health camps provided access to health care for the less privileged in society.
