101 Years of Pandji Wicaksana: A Gift of Sight

In celebration of the 101st anniversary of the late PDG Pandji Wicaksana, Lions Eye Bank Jakarta (LEBJ) and JEC Eye Hospitals and Clinics are joining hands in a meaningful tribute: providing cataract surgery for 101 patients who deserve the opportunity to see the world more clearly.
Launched in conjunction with World Sight Day 2026 at JEC Eye Hospital in Kedoya, Jakarta, the initiative displays evidence of shared dedication to making quality eye care accessible to communities in need. The initiative is more than just a symbolic celebration. Rather, it transforms the legacy of a remarkable servant leader into tangible hope for those whose vision has been clouded by cataracts.
The late PDG Pandji Wicaksana was the founder of YLI and a former District Governor of Lions Clubs International District 307-A. During his journey in service, he advocated compassion and generosity. He believed that consequential transformation begins with caring for others. His legacy continues to inspire generations of Lions to turn their commitment to service into lasting benefits for society.
In this collaboration, LEBJ and JEC combined their resources to provide cataract surgery to individuals in need. While LEBJ supports the larger goal of promoting eye health and expanding access to treatment, JEC Eye Hospitals and Clinics offers medical expertise, facilities, and professional care. Working alongside Lions Club Indonesia and Gerakan Matahati, the initiative brings together medical professionals, volunteers, and supporters toward a common purpose.
Throughout JEC’s network of clinics and hospitals, the 101 patients will receive coordinated care, including screening, surgery, and postoperative monitoring. The program will run from October to December 2026, and it includes communities from several regions of Indonesia.
For each patient, cataract surgery is more than just a medical procedure. It offers regained independence, greater confidence, and a better quality of life. Restored eyesight also means renewed hope for their families, as they can then share everyday moments with utmost ease.
Ultimately, this initiative is not only a tribute to the years of PDG Pandji Wicaksana’s life, but also to the values he leaves behind. By dedicating 101 cataract surgeries to his 101st anniversary, LEBJ and JEC reaffirm that the most meaningful way to honor a legacy is to continue serving others.
