Since collabse of Somalia once termed the “switzerland of Africa” However 1992 every thing goes upside down Special Olympics Somalia hosted first time in three decades a successful Healthy Athlet as the launch of the first ever Young Rural Athlete Health Model (AH) program at Galmudug and SSC-Khatumo State of Somalia.
Children with disabilities are at a much higher risk of having visual impairment than those without disabilities. Special Olympics Healthy Athlete program is dedicated to ensure access of basic health service for people with intellectual disabilities.

The impact of these screenings on the health and wellness of Special Olympics athletes around the world is significant. Healthy Athletes has discovered undetected health problems, alleviated pain and provided health services that otherwise would not be available.
Healthy Athletes is not only a program for athletes but, through training and hands-on experience at screenings, it is a program for healthcare students and professionals to increase knowledge of best practices in caring for and communicating with people with intellectual disabilities.
In this regard, Team Special Olympics Somalia conducted HA screening at Lions Center with help of clinical volunteers from sight first Action intiative for Somalia.
Lastly we would also like to thank the LCIF, for their continued support towards Special Olympics Health programming and the athletes of Special Olympics Somalia.
