Jointly Organized by Lions International District 321B1, Department of Psychology – University of Lucknow, and Department of Psychiatry – King George’s Medical University, Lucknow

On World Mental Health Day, three – century old institutions : Lions International (1917), King George’s Medical University (1911), and University of Lucknow (1920) came together for a Symposium on Mental Health and Well-being, promoting awareness, compassion, and collective responsibility.
District Governor Lion Dr. R.C. Mishra emphasized returning to Indian values for emotional balance, while Lion Dr. Neeraj Bora, MLA, highlighted digital dependence and suggested daily no-technology sessions for families. A message from Lion A.P. Singh, International President, stressed compassion and open dialogue as keys to mental wellness.
“Vitaria,” a creative student initiative, and a Mental Health Awareness Booklet authored by Lion Dr. Nehal Raza were launched.
A multidisciplinary panel discussion, moderated by Prof. Ridhima Shukla, featured experts from law, medicine, psychology, and media. Topics included legal rights (Justice Retd. Shabihul Hasnain), Healthy Body & Mind, Stress Management (Prof. A.K. Tripathi) , Common Mental Disorders( Prof. Bandana Gupta) , Stress Management and Suicide Prevention (Dr. Rashmi Shukla), parenting (Prof. Archana Shukla), postpartum depression (Dr. Asna Zahra Naqvi), and media’s social role (Mr. Prem Kant Tiwari).
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Lion Dr. Nehal Raza, reaffirming that mental health is not just medical but a social and cultural mission. Such collaborations will continue to strengthen the movement for mental health awareness in the future.
