Ushnota 2.0: Spreading Warmth with Love
Winter can be a season of comfort for many—wrapped in blankets, sipping hot drinks in the safety of our homes. But for countless underprivileged individuals, especially the homeless, it is a time of unbearable hardship. To address this seasonal struggle, the Leo Club of Dhaka Elite Junior once again stepped forward with the second chapter of our heartfelt initiative—Ushnota 2.0.
“Ushnota” translates to warmth, and that’s precisely what we aim to spread—both in the form of winter clothing and genuine compassion.
This project, which began in 2023, was born from a simple idea: young high school students using their personal savings and seeking small donations from friends and family to make a meaningful impact. Despite our limitations as an Alpha Leo Club—comprising high school students—we were determined to make a difference again this year. With our combined efforts, we managed to purchase 100 brand new winter clothes for distribution among those in need.
Planning was key. With limited supplies, we wanted every piece of clothing to reach someone who genuinely needed it. I, Leo Md Mazharul Haque Adib, Club President of Leo Club of Dhaka Elite Junior, along with our Project Coordinator, Leo Mustary Haque, Club Joint Secretary of Leo Club of Dhaka Elite Junior, discussed possible locations for distribution inside Dhaka, Bangladesh. After careful thought and consultation with our club members, we decided to distribute the clothes at night—when we could find the truly homeless, those who sleep on the streets and sidewalks, exposed to the bitter cold.
On 6th January, 2025 at 9 PM, in Sector-6, Uttara, Dhaka-1230, Bangladesh, braving the winter night and accompanied by Leo Azmain Khan, Club Marketing Chairperson of Leo Club of Dhaka Elite Junior, and several other dedicated club members, we set out to distribute warm clothes to homeless individuals—focusing on children and elderly people living on the streets.
The experience was humbling. It wasn’t just about handing out clothes—it was about seeing smiles on faces that had long forgotten what warmth felt like.
It is a testament to the power of youth, empathy, and unity. It proves that no act of kindness is ever too small—and together we can light up someone’s cold, dark night—with warmth and love.
