A facility Renovation for people with disabilities

WaiWai House Cosmos, a facility for people with disabilities in Aomori, Japan, was renovated in April 2024.

In January 2022, Lions club members learned of the facility’s condition, with broken windows and plywood reinforcement. So that they consulted with fellow Lions and decided to apply LCIF matching grant funds to finish reinforcing the exterior walls and replacing the interior wallpaper and so on.

Thanks to LCIF and the Lions of District 332A, the old building, which was in danger of collapsing, was rebuilt.

The new facility has been well received by the residents, who commented, “The walls are whiter and brighter. We are very grateful.”. Another said with a smile, “The entrance is wider and it’s easier to move around.”

I think the most important thing is that the residents can spend their time safely and comfortably. We are glad to be able to complete the construction. ”Through this grant project, I had also come to understand how much this facility is needed by people. I was speechless when I heard that without this facility, caregivers would have a very hard time caring for their children at home and would feel quite lonely.

Recently, the Law for Supporting Children with Medical Care was enacted, but the actual number of children (persons) with severe mental and physical disabilities and children (persons) with medical care is not clearly known yet. It is even more difficult to know if we are not aware of them. We would like to support these people continuously in any way we can.
