Rain Water Harvesting
Rain Water Harvesting
Scarcity of water is going to be the most burning issue in the near future. There are various causes for the situation which are not needed to be highlighted here.
Keeping in view the need of conservation and recharge of Rain water , the Lions Club Lucknow Pratishtha District 321B1 has taken one small step towards this gigantic goal under Lions International global cause Environment. The Higher Secondary School in Nirala Nagar, Lucknow is situated in a low lying area where the entire field is water logged in the rainy season and thereafter. To tap this rain water, one Rain Water Recharge System has been installed in the campus of school on 14.7.2022 by Lions Club. The children of the school were sensitized by the club regarding the importance of water conservation, harvesting and recharging.
The process of the Rain Water Recharge System is very simple, economic and user-friendly. We have taken a drum of plastic (covered with lid) of 250 litre capacity. Hundreds of holes were made in this drum and then it was kept in a pit of about 4/4/4 feet. In the space between the walls of the drum and walls of the pit, the brick & concretes were filled. Students took part in this activity with full zeal and enthusiasm. Finally one layer of the bricks was laid around the drum and the pit was closed.
The big hole of drum was fitted with a plastic pipe of two and half inch fitted with elbow. A net of plastic wire was tied on the mouth of the pipe so that the water is filtered here and garbage do not go into the drum.
The filtered rain water will go through this pipe into the drum and then it will seepage from the holes of drum and pass through the brick & concretes and it will be absorbed by the walls of the pit and water will go down under ground water strata.
With this process the rain water will continue to recharge the water strata and it will help in recouping some quantity of water which is being exploited by way of submersible pump etc.
This is a small step taken up by Lions Club Pratishtha to repay some debts to mother nature.
After this work in the school the people from the society enquire about this systems and start installing the system in their houses also.
