Peace Poster
“PEACE WITHOUT LIMITS” was the theme for the 2024-2025 Lions International Peace Poster competition. The Marshalltown Evening Lions hosted the Marshalltown 9MC District awards ceremony and reception at the Marshalltown Public Library. Sandra Thomae, Lenihan teacher and Marshalltown Evening Lions chairperson for the event coordinated with Nicholas Beard, Lenihan art instructor. Judging of the nine 6th grade entries was completed prior to the evenings event. After a short verbal presentation as to what influenced the young artist renditions, the winners were announced. Walmart gift cards were awarded in the varying amounts. From L-R: 3rd Place $20 winner Jayline Vellagomez Patlan; 2nd Place $30 winner Nora Staker; 1st Place $50 winner, Ryan Roberts. Ryan explained that his poster reflects the traditional peace sign reaching past the highest point of a mountain and through the limitless clouds with the hot air balloon floating.
Ryan was also presented a formal certificate by the 9MC District Governor, Bill Pollard of Altoona and congratulations by the Marshalltown Evening Lions’ President Deb Estabrook along with congratulations from all present including other Marshalltown Evening Lions Club members. Ryan’s poster will advance to the Iowa Lions International Regionals. After multiple tiers, the final Lions International 2024-2025 Peace Poster winner will be announced February 1, 2025. Following the presentation of awards, refreshments were served to participants, their families and friends.
